Position Overview

Analyst, Wealth Management – Broker/Dealers

Position Overview:

We are seeking a candidate with experience within a broker/dealer (e.g. wirehouse or other national broker/dealer or bank wealth management department), a financial advisor practice affiliated with a broker/dealer, an organization serving or supporting broker/dealers and/or their financial advisors, or a wealth management technology provider.

The ideal candidate has an understanding of broker/dealers, including how they operate, the capabilities they offer their financial advisors, the services their financial advisors offer to their retail investor clients, and how they offer them. The candidate would leverage this experience to execute the responsibilities of the role, including conducting primary research, such as research calls with relevant industry professionals, building and fielding online surveys of financial advisors and other relevant industry professionals, building and maintaining market models, and supporting the authoring of research reports analyzing the marketplace for wealth management services and the presentation of research findings to clients and prospects.

The position is ideal for someone who is analytical and quantitatively oriented, exhibits strong writing skills, works autonomously, is adaptable, is comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously, and seeks to build deep industry expertise. Successful candidates for this position are hardworking, persistent, and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for financial services industry research and analysis.

The position is a hybrid role based in the Boston office and reports to a Director, Wealth Management. The position offers significant industry exposure, including interactions with senior executives throughout the industry, coverage in industry publications, and potentially presenting at conferences and events.

Cerulli's Wealth Management practice focuses on trends related to financial advisors and related intermediaries, including:

  • In-depth competitive analysis of the marketplace for retail wealth management services
  • Needs, challenges, risks, and opportunities facing financial advisors and the wealth management firms with which they affiliate
  • Distribution strategies for retail asset management products utilized by or distributed through financial advisors, including wholesaling and key account distribution efforts
  • Competitive dynamics underlying marketshare shifts across wirehouse, RIA, independent B/D, and other advisor affiliation models

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support the U.S. Broker Dealer Marketplace report, which focuses on the competitive landscape for wealth management services offered by broker/dealers and their financial advisors
  • Author timely thought-leadership content for the quarterly Cerulli Edge U.S. Advisor Edition
  • Assist in building quantitative surveys and models, including survey design, data gathering, data modeling and analysis, and exhibit creation
  • Solicit the participation of, and participate in interviews of senior executives regarding emerging trends among broker/dealers, their affiliated financial advisors, asset managers distributing products through these intermediaries, and more
  • Support strategic consulting and custom research engagements that pertain to the practice
  • Provide client support, including conference calls and live meetings, related to the annual report
  • Assist account managers with client inquiries related to the practice’s research content
  • Support any partnerships with industry trade associations, publications, and media

Qualifications:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in financial services related to retail wealth and/or asset management
  • Understanding of broker/dealers and the retail wealth management services they provide through their affiliated financial advisors
  • Superior writing and communication skills
  • Aptitude for synthesizing research, identifying trends, and providing commentary on relevant industry issues
  • Attention to detail and emphasis on accuracy
  • Ability to successfully execute on multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Excel; able to manipulate and analyze sizeable amounts of data
  • Experience with Alteryx and/or SPSS is a plus
  • Ability to cultivate a network of industry contacts for research purposes
  • College degree; completion of, or progress toward CFP®, CIMA® or CFA® is a plus

Associate Analyst, Wealth Management

Position Overview

Associate Analyst, Wealth Management – WealthTech

Position Overview:

We are seeking a candidate with entry-level experience within a wealth management intermediary (e.g. broker/dealer, Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), turnkey asset management program (TAMP), custodian) or within a financial advisor practice, an organization serving or supporting financial advisors, a wealth management technology vendor, or at a technology consulting organization. The ideal candidate has some familiarity with these types of organizations and the technology they use, or provide, in order to support the delivery of wealth management services to retail investors. The candidate would leverage this knowledge to execute the responsibilities of the role, which includes conducting primary research, such as research calls with relevant industry professionals, building and fielding online surveys of financial advisors and other relevant industry professionals, building and maintaining market models, and supporting the authoring of research reports analyzing the marketplace for wealth management technology as it is used within advisor practices and across the various aforementioned retail wealth management intermediaries.

Qualifications:

  • 0 to 2 years of experience in a capacity related to retail wealth management services or wealth management technology
  • Superior writing and communication skills
  • Aptitude for synthesizing research, identifying trends, and providing commentary on relevant industry issues

  • Ability to successfully execute multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines
