Associate Analyst, Wealth Management

Position Overview:

The Associate Analyst position is based in the Boston Office in the Wealth Management practice. The practice focuses on trends related to financial advisors and related intermediaries, including:

  • Needs, challenges, risks, and opportunities facing financial advisors
  • Competitive dynamics across wirehouse, RIA, independent B/D, and other advisor affiliation models
  • Analysis of the largest B/Ds, RIA custodians, and RIA aggregators/platforms
  • Distribution strategies for retail asset management products sold through financial advisors

The position is ideal for someone who is analytical and quantitatively-oriented, exhibits strong writing skills, works autonomously, is adaptable and comfortable multi-tasking, and seeks to build deep industry expertise. Successful candidates for this position are hardworking, persistent, and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for financial services industry research and analysis. The position reports to the Director of the Wealth Management practice. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

The Associate Analyst generates quantitative analytics and manages projects for the Wealth Management practice’s research, publishing, and consulting needs. Responsibilities include:

  • Build, test, and manage surveys using Qualtrics online survey software
  • Use IBM SPSS software to implement Cerulli’s proprietary advisor survey database, broker/dealer database, and RIA database
  • Create exhibits using SPSS, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Develop lists of senior executives and solicit their participation in the research interviews
  • Write key implications for data exhibits in research reports
  • Collect data from public company filings and other sources for quarterly and annual market sizing projects
  • Scrub raw survey data to minimize invalid responses and identify outliers
  • Support data needs for partnerships with industry trade associations and publications
  • Shadow research calls with senior executives to build subject-matter expertise
  • Conduct project management for the practices’ strategic consulting engagements

Qualifications:

  • 0-2 years of experience in financial services; prior experience working with financial advisors is a plus
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree: preferably in business, finance, or economics
  • Superior quantitative acumen is a must
  • Strong attention to detail and emphasis on accuracy
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Excel; able to manipulate and analyze sizeable amounts of data
  • Desire to learn IBM SPSS software
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage projects

Senior Analyst, Retirement Markets 

Position Overview:

This Senior Analyst position is based in the Boston Office in the Retirement practice and reports to the Director, Retirement. The practice focuses on trends related to the Retirement markets, including:

  • Trends in the 401(k), 403(b), 457 and other defined contribution markets
  • Defined contribution investment only (DCIO) strategies for asset managers, including target-date funds
  • Strategies in the recordkeeper market, including participant engagement and service offerings
  • Trends in personal retirement planning, including the IRA market and retirement income

Cerulli is seeking a candidate with experience related to the retirement markets, including both defined contribution and personal retirement planning.

Successful candidates for this position are analytical and quantitatively-oriented, exhibit strong writing skills, work autonomously, are adaptable and comfortable multi-tasking, and seek to build deep industry expertise. Responsibilities and Duties:

The Senior Analyst has extensive analysis, data modeling, and writing responsibilities. The position contributes to research initiatives for three annual research reports and a quarterly periodical. The Senior Analyst will:

  • Author research report content related to emerging industry trends
  • Build quantitative surveys and models, including survey design, data gathering, data modeling and analysis, and exhibit creation
  • Conduct ongoing qualitative research related to report themes
  • Manage report projects and deadlines
  • Solicit and interview senior executives about emerging industry trends
  • Manage partnerships with industry trade associations and publications

Quantitative Research Analyst, Wealth Management 

Position Overview:

The Quantitative Research Analyst position works within the Wealth Management practice, reports to the Director, Wealth Management and is based in Cerulli’s Boston office.

This is a newly created position and is ideal for someone who is proficient in IBM SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The role requires being analytical, quantitatively-focused, persistent, and highly detail-oriented. There will be extensive data analysis and data modeling responsibilities. Examples include managing large proprietary SPSS broker/dealer (B/D) and financial advisor survey databases. The position will also contribute to the practice’s qualitative research as needed and selectively support other quantitative research needs, across the firm, as it pertains to custom and consulting projects.

The candidate must be able to work autonomously, be comfortable with multi-tasking, and adaptative to meet multiple strict deadlines.

Cerulli’s Wealth Management practice focuses on trends related to financial advisors and related intermediaries, including:

  • In-depth competitive analysis and qualitative coverage of the largest B/Ds and registered investment advisor (RIA) custodians
  • Needs, challenges, risks, and opportunities facing financial advisors
  • Distribution strategies for retail asset management products sold through financial advisors
  • Strategy for wholesaling teams, including structure, compensation, and resource allocation
  • Competitive dynamics underlying marketshare shifts across wirehouse, RIA, independent B/D, private bank, family office, and other advisor affiliation models

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Function as the highly specialized analytic expert within the Wealth Management practice
  • Manage multiple data modeling projects in both SPSS and Excel and meet deadlines
  • Maintain and improve existing SPSS databases, Excel workbooks, processes, and timelines
  • Continuously work to innovate new databases, syntax, data models, and outputs
  • Create new SPSS syntax to generate, edit, and proof data to create tables, graphs, and dashboards
  • Fully document and update all processes

Director, IT Business Partner 

Position Overview:

Cerulli is looking for a hands-on senior IT professional, with experience leading a successful IT department. This person will partner with our business leaders to define and prioritize key technology initiatives based on current and future business needs. They will manage the execution of these global initiatives, while communicating relevant project information to business leaders. This is an onsite role in our Boston office.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Act as the liaison between internal business units, managed services, and any other third-party vendors
  • Create, maintain, and document all standardized corporate IT practices, policies, and procedures
  • Manage and oversee the managed services and external development team
  • Ensure that company websites, internal and external (e.g., cloud) platforms, and service endpoints function properly and are available to users at all times
  • Coordinate and manage outside vendors and suppliers, and licensed services and products
  • Oversee the launch of solutions to minimize transition disruption and maximize business outcomes
  • Create and define our annual global technology roadmap/strategy
  • Prepare and actively manage project cost estimates, schedule/timelines, and department budgets and forecasts
